Self Pampering // A 30 minutes 'Pick Me Up' to de-stress and recharge

self-pampering-destress

After finishing exams, I always have a left over nervousness that even a good result can't cure. I have an overwhelming urge to continue studying, because I can barely remember what it feels like to have nothing to do. Am I a complete weirdo or do other people get this feeling? Anyway, when films and sunbathing just don't cut it, its time for some hardcore self-spa relaxation, and here are my tips for a 30 minute de-stress session!

Light a candle // My favourite ambience enhancer at the moment is this Jasmine & White Frangipani scented candle from The Body Shop, but the vanilla one is also gorgeous if you prefer something subtle. The Jasmine candle smells comforting and fresh, and the smell really lingers. This candle rivals those four times its price, and it really doesn't break the bank.

Listen // Just to set the calming mood a little more, get yourself accustomed to the sound of Enya, if you're not already a fan. If you really want to relax though, look out for Andrew Johnson's relaxation programmes. I have the app, but you can listen to his amazing Scottish accent and techniques on YouTube.

Apply a hair mask // I'm loving Arbonne's revitalising hair masque* at the moment, its super thick, creamy and delicious. Actually, its probably my new favourite. Apply to your damp hair, wrap it up in a bun, pop a shower cap on (or wrap in cling film) and relax before rinsing. Super soft, protected hair!

Apply a face mask // I would usually grab my Origins clay mask, and whilst it does a good job at clarifying, a hard cracked face isn't what I'm going for when I want to de-stress. For this purpose, I choose this Korres yoghurt moisturising mask that I picked up on holiday. Just apply, leave for 15 minutes, and rinse.

Have a bath // And really treat yourself with it. For this, Lush is all you need. Take your candle and inhale the vimto-licious scent of Lush's Comforter bubble bar, and add a Butterball bath bomb to really smooth your skin with no effort. Whilst you're here, make an effort to clear your mind and really focus on the way you breathe.

Online shop // If you really feel like treating yourself, browse through some online shopping and splurge on some top quality cashmere cardigans. I know how soft and snuggly cashmere is, and I'm tempted whilst they're on sale - I'd never be able to let myself pay full price, but light cardigans are something I wear all year round so I really should veer away from my misshaped Primark numbers.

Paint your nails // When I need something to distract myself for a short while, I'll paint my nails. Its quite therapeutic, and you're left with shiny new nails to boot.

Do you do any of these things to chill out?
What else do you do to relax?

  1. Face masks and nail painting are usually pretty relaxing for me as well. :) Yoga, naps, and time outside in a quiet place are great as well.
